“Luscious soprano Kathryn Guthrie is wonderfully romantic as Miranda, especially when paired with tenor Neal Ferriera (as Ferdinand), who has a distinctively bright, ringing timbre. Their remarkable duet captures the exciting state of exploring new love,” is how Opera News raves about the duet from Joseph Summer’s The Tempest, which will be the centerpiece for Texas’ Sherman Community Series 50th anniversary Concert presentation of The Shakespeare Concerts. Traveling to Texas with Guthrie and Ferreira, will be mezzo-soprano Thea Lobo, who will perform as Ariel in “Full Fathom Five,” which Opera News described as a “haunting setting . . .the highlight of The Tempest.” The featured pianist for the concert will be the world-renowned Czech virtuoso, Miroslav Sekera. John McGinn, emeritus music director of The Shakespeare Concerts, and newly appointed artistic director of The Sherman Community Series will direct a concert which will include Shakespearean music by Hector Berlioz, Johannes Brahms, Charles Ives, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, William Walton, and Adolphus Hailstork.
